At present, "Sovelmash" has 56 active R&D projects, and these are not mere calculations, but work with end products and preparation of prototype models. At the SOLARGROUP International Conference in Moscow, Alexander Sudarev, Deputy General Director for Public Relations at "Sovelmash", spoke about the developments with which the company aims to start its full-fledged commercial activity. 

Size 100 general-purpose industrial motor 

Made in a standard housing, but with the innovative "Slavyanka" combined winding inside that improves the motor's performance. For example, the productivity is enhanced allowing the motor to run at a higher frequency. 

Drive system for hand-held power tools 

The angle grinder is the first machine with this drive that is being prepared for mass production. The angle grinder with a "Slavyanka" based motor runs quieter and softer than its counterparts, has better speed and quality of cut. There is no other angle grinder in the world that operates at 600 Hz using standard electrical steel. The industrial version of the tool was prepared and tested - the calculations even exceeded the expectations a bit. In the near future the angle grinder will be subjected to certification in special laboratories. 

Gearless elevator winch 

The winch is made using the same technologies that are applied in the induction hub motor developed by "Sovelmash". For example, using the technology of casting the rotor with aluminium in an oxygen-free environment makes it possible to obtain high-quality products free of oxide inclusions and to achieve the optimal price-quality ratio. The winch has 8 modifications and can be used in passenger, cargo-and-passenger, freight, hospital elevators and other lifting gear. 

Controllers 

"Sovelmash" has developed controllers with their own math and software. These units are more compact than their counterparts and deliver comparable power. A controller for hand-held power tools is being prepared for mass production, and a controller for traction motors has been developed. 

Process equipment 

Such equipment is necessary for "Sovelmash" to manufacture its products, partly in order to be less dependent on suppliers. Already developed: 

• incremental encoder and unit for magnetizing it, 

• machine for fitting groove insulation to hub motors and motors for power tools, 

• machine for setting rotor and stator plates for hub motors. 

The developments will be used in elevator winches and other products.
